Didmus Barasa Proposes 50-Year Rule For Kenya Kwanza Government: "It Can Be Done"

Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has joined the push to extend Kenya Kwanza government's rule.

Barasa suggested Kenya Kwanza could rule like the Africa National Congress (ANC) in South Africa and Chama Cha Mapinduzi in Tanzania.

Speaking to K24, the MP said that Kenya Kwanza government can still achieve that without tampering with the presidential term limit.

"This can be done by ensuring that the presidents who will come after William Samoei Ruto has completed it 10 years constitutional limit then whoever will come will pick it up from the progress the rest will have left," he said.

MP Pkosing' promises to back Ruto to rule for 25 years

This was not the first time there has been a debate over President William Ruto's term limit.

On April 8, Pokot South MP David Pkosing proposed that the president should rule for 25 years. Pkosing, vowed to push for constitutional amendments to remove the presidential term limit and allow Ruto to remain in power for the said duration.

His statements caused a lot of uproar on social media, with some netizens supporting the him while others expressing disappointment.

Senator Chargei wants presidential term increased

Nandi senator Cherargei made a proposal for a constitutional amendment involving the office of the president.

In his memorandum to the National Dialogue Committee, Cherargei proposed the increase of the presidential term from the current five to seven years.

Cherargei told the committee chaired by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka that the current five-year term is insufficient for a winning candidate.
