Gillian Chepchirchir, a 10-year-old prodigy from the tranquil village of Sosiot in Kericho County, has been selected to represent Kenya in a prestigious competition in Europe.

How much does Gillian need?

With talents spanning modelling, yoga, gymnastics, and boxing, Gillian was the only one chosen among 20 children from across the nation.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Kiplagat Kigen pointed out that the journey to Malta, where the competition will be held, presents a financial challenge for Gillian and her family.

"Now, she's been chosen to represent Kericho County in Malta, Europe, for a big competition," said Kigen.

The family is now seeking help to raise KSh 700,000 to cover visa expenses and accommodation for Gillian and her mother.

The mother will accompany her to provide support during the competition.

"But she needs help getting there. They need 700,000 shillings for her visa and accommodation, along with her mom," he added.

Gillian calls on leaders to support her

In her quest for support, Gillian is reaching out to notable leaders.

They include President William Samoei Ruto, Governor Dr Mutai Erick Kipkoech, and Member of Parliament Aaron Cheruiyot, urging them to contribute to her cause.

The competition, scheduled to commence on July 3, 2024, offers Gillian a platform to showcase her talents on an international stage.

A pre-event celebration is also planned for June 2, 2024, at her hometown in Belgut, Kericho County.

"The competition starts on July 3rd, 2024, in Malta. And there's a function on June 2nd, 2024, at her home ground in Belgut, Kericho County," said Kigen.

11-year-old leads empowerment event

In a separate story, 11-year-old Princess Aileen Akinyi, in collaboration with the Destiny Helpers Foundation, orchestrated a significant empowerment event for girls in Kisumu.

The initiative, held in Muhoroni sub-county, sought to equip local students with essential resources and empower them ahead of the reopening of schools.

Akinyi's mum, Stella Tande, while speaking to TUKO.co.ke, highlighted the event's primary goals, which included combating period shame and promoting dignity among girls.

The event featured sanitary pads, stationery, and toiletries distributed to Mashinani students, ensuring they had the necessary supplies for their academic pursuits.
