How significant is Madaraka Day?

Madaraka Day, a significant event in Kenya's national calendar, commemorates the country's attainment of self-governance from British colonial rule on June 1, 1963.

The annual celebration features a parade by the KDF and various cultural performances, symbolising the nation's progress and unity.

George Natembeya claims he was denied an invitation

TUKO.co.ke previously reported Governor George Natembeya revealed his disappointment after being denied an invitation to Madaraka Day celebrations.

The outspoken former Rift Valley regional commissioner said he suspected the move was made after he publicly advocated for a change in regional leadership.

While speaking in Vihiga county during the launch of the Tawe Movement Vihiga Women's League, Natembeya said that other governors within the region have been involved in planning Madaraka Day celebrations while he has been kept in the dark.

Natembeya stated that he is not working under anyone and, therefore, not on anyone's project.
