The young girl who went viral online after her emotional reaction to President William Ruto's school reopening announcement has received a call from him.

The Head of State contacted the young girl, Tinsely Nduta, after she trended on social media.

Nduta was broken after Ruto announced that schools would open on Monday, May 13 after he had declared that they would not be opened until further notice.

"Thank you, Your Excellency, for calling my daughter," Nduta's mum, Mama Tinsley, captioned her video on TikTok.

Mama Tinsley talked with Ruto before he asked to speak to Nduta, who was relaxing beside her mum and enjoying ice cream.

I was not prepared, Tinsley Nduta

Ruto greeted the young girl, who was stunned when her mum told her she was speaking to His Excellency Ruto.

Ruto introduced himself and asked Nduta how she was doing before asking if she knew she was going to school the following day.

"I was not prepared," Nduta shyly said after Ruto asked her why she cried after he announced the school reopening dates.

Ruto explains importance of going to school

Ruto said he was calling to explain why she had to go to school after seeing her clip doing rounds on social media.

"You have to go to school, Tinsley, because the law in Kenya states that every child in Kenya must go to school and every parent must take their child to school because it is the only way we can impart knowledge, you can learn new things, you can learn subjects that can help you in the future," he said.

Ruto added he would like to see Nduta and would make time to see her after she reports to school.

He urged her to share the same information on the importance of attending school with her friends and schoolmates.

Government rules out extending second term school calendar

In other news, the Ministry of Education, through Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, confirmed that the second term school calendar would proceed as scheduled, with no adjustments.

School heads were instructed to admit learners unconditionally and to maintain the term dates and activities previously released.

Kipsang emphasised the importance of removing barriers to admission, such as uniforms and school fees, especially for learners affected by floods.

In addition to admission directives, schools were required to ensure the safety of all learners, including adherence to school transport guidelines.
