This happened around the same time police officers arrested Wa Iria's wife, Jane Waigwe, and her brother, Solomon Mutura.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) confirmed that the two were arrested over a KSh 140 million corruption case involving Murang'a County.

Wa Iria was the governor of Murang'a between 2013 and 2022, having successfully served two terms.

EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi indicated that the two would be arraigned alongside six others, including Wa Iria, whom the agency was pursuing.

EACC summons Mwangi Wa Iria

On Tuesday, April 16, EACC gave Wa Iria and his spouse Waigwe 24 hours to appear at its Integrity Centre headquarters before 8 a.m.

The agency had indicated police officers would arrest them if they failed to honour the summons to shed light on the graft case.

In the viral clip, a white helicopter is seen raising dust as it lands on the dusty grounds.

After touching down, three people, including lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, are seen running towards the aircraft and finally boarding it. A fourth person boards a few seconds later.

Njiru was seen carrying a brown envelope believed to be court orders barring EACC investigators from arresting the former county chief, whose kin had been arrested earlier that day.

The lawyer confirmed that the chopper had been deployed to pick up court orders for urgent delivery to Nairobi.

He said the chopper was rushing the orders to Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, where Waigwe and Mutura were to be arraigned.

The chopper excited learners at a nearby school who ran out to view it before it took off with those on board.
