Kakamega Governor On The Spot For Allocating KSh 11m For Food In His Office

• The Senate Public Accounts Committee sought an explanation for the hefty spending in Governor Fernandes Barasa's office
• Under the stewardship of Homa Bay senator Moses Kajwang', the committee learned that the Kakamega governor's office expended KSh 11 million for staff's food
• However, Governor Fernandes Barasa suggested that the amount was spread for costs, and thus was not solely used on food

Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa was at pains to explain an allocation to his office for the 2023/24 fiscal year.

The Senate Public Accounts Committee established that the county government channelled millions as personal allowances to the governor's office staff.

KSh 11 million was allocated for the staffer's meals.

The committee's chair, Homa Bay senator Moses Kajwang', sought to understand the type of food the staff were partaking in to warrant such a heavy allocation.
