Veteran journalist Kanze Dena has opened up on her first pregnancy and how it affected her life.

When did Kanze Dena first get pregnant?

Kanze Dena talked of her first pregnancy after high school and how scared she was scared of her mother in an interview with Parents Magazine.

According to the journalist, it was unheard of during her time to get pregnant out of wedlock, and she knew her mother would 'kill her.'

"The first time I found out that I am pregnant, my first thought was that I am going to die. I had a very harsh mother, a very strict one, and here I was getting pregnant out of wedlock. I had cleared high school. There is also a notion I need to clear. I never got pregnant while in school. I got pregnant a year or two after clearing high school. I was not married, and my mum was very strict and harsh. Those days, getting pregnant out of marriage, you got stigmatised for it. So I was like, I'm going to die. I will be killed."

The mother of two plotted ways to hide the pregnancy; luckily, she went to college for studies and rented a hostel.

"It got me thinking of so many things in the process. For one, my mother can't know that I'm pregnant. I was going to college, I had signed up for secretarial and IT college at Loreto Msongari. So I ensured I looked myself into a hostel so that I can be able to hide my pregnancy."

How did Kanze Dena's mum find out she's pregnant?

Kanze revealed that while in labour, her mum visited her, not knowing that she had given birth, and she wished the ground would open up and swallow her.

She had also thought of adoption, but when she held her child, they created a bond.

"I was thinking to my mind, now what's happening, creating a bond with this child, I don't want this child, I've not done any shopping, I was already set in my mind how I was going to give away this baby."

How Kanze Dena shut down cancer rumours

In other news, the celebrated journalist shut down rumours that she was sick.

Videos alleging that Kanze had been diagnosed with cancer emerged, and netizens grew concerned, and some took to her comment section to ask for answers from her.

She put the rumours to rest and rebuked the person spreading rumours that she was battling cancer, stating that she was very healthy.
