Following stringent verification procedures, the baby was entrusted to her grandmother's care, ensuring familial support and supervision.

"The grandma came, and after proper verifications, we successfully handed over the baby for family care... And follow-ups shall still be done," she shared.

Ongoing monitoring will ensure the child's welfare remains a priority.

Mother of child had fled from home

A surprising revelation emerged during the investigation as it was discovered that the baby's mother follows the Muslim faith.

This was evidenced by her attire, or lack thereof, without the customary Ninja and buibui.

"Apparently, was actually shocked that the girl is a Muslim after the grandma found her without her Ninja and buibui," shared Olayo.

Further inquiries unveiled a troubled past, as the mother had fled her home in Murang'a, seeking refuge in Nairobi.

Unfortunately, her journey led to encounters with substance abuse and an unplanned pregnancy.

Couple released after intense counselling

The distressing scene where the infant was discovered unfolded in a drug-ridden corner of Kasarani, where the mother and her partner abandoned the child. Through intensive follow-up procedures, coupled with counselling and guidance, the mother and her partner were released.

"Kumbe she had run away from her home in Murang'a and came to Nairobi, that's where she met the tout that introduced her to dru*s and got her pregnant hence the negligence,"

However, as a precautionary measure, the young mother will reside with her own mother outside Nairobi until deemed appropriate. Olayo further explained to TUKO.co.ke the importance of safeguarding children and advocating for their rights, irrespective of familial ties.

Olayo urges society to be vigilant

"Also, after proper follow-up, counselling and guidance, we got the girl and the young man released," Olayo said.
"At the moment, the young mother shall be living with her mother out of Nairobi...until further notice," she added.

She urged society to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting vulnerable members, especially children, from neglect and harm. On a lighter note, Olayo shared a touching moment as her daughter, having developed a bond with the rescued infant, expressed a desire for a sibling.

Sakaja rescues newborn abandoned by mother

In a similar story, Governor Johnson Sakaja came to the aid of a baby left by his mother unattended in a dilapidated house in Embakasi West.

Gladys Atieno's neighbours raised the alarm after finding the newborn baby on a wet mattress with the mother nowhere to be seen.

The 43-year-old woman left the infant six hours after giving birth to go and look for money to pay for rent and food for her three young children.

Atieno told TUKO.co.ke that when the mother returned, she found deeply concerned neighbours carrying the baby.
