Chef Matiko, a Kenyan man living in Europe, has given a virtual tour of his house back in Migori county.

When did Chef Matiko start building his house?

Basically, the Europe-based chef's house is made of bricks and also boasts a flat roof.

Although it is still under construction, the large rooms show that it is going to be a huge house upon completion

Matiko, who was speaking on his YouTube channel, shared that he started building his house in February 2024, and five months later, the skeleton is done.

The skeleton of the house was built with small red bricks, and there are also large windows all over the house. The windows entail well-installed grills and are awaiting finishing as well,

"The interior is yet to be done, and the windows do not have glasses. The house is so beautiful; it is just like mum's house, but it has an open kitchen concept because I want it to be modern," he said.
"We are done with the roofing and the floor; since it is a flat roof, we want zero leakage. I work on construction sites, and I have ideas as an electrician that I will implement," he added.

Why Chef Matiko went for one-storey building

Matiko shared that his house will have two resting areas; a very big porch at the front of the house and another one at the top.

"Today, they are putting the floor on the porch. The reason I am going for a simple house is I do not want stress," said the man who drew his own house.

Matiko also shared that he went for a one-storey building because he had retirement in mind. Since he is taking a lot of stairs in Europe, he didn't want to use more stairs in retirement.

"Having a bungalow will give me a relaxed life," he said.

When taking over from Matiko, his younger brother showed that the piping that would be used to cover electric wires had been put inside and outside the house. At the base of the piping are sockets which had also been installed.

On the outside part, an electrician had installed a metre box that will house the metre used to gauge electricity usage or where they can put the token metre.

Problem with wells

The floor of the massive house will also have tiles, and the young man showed the rough floors in all the rooms that will soon shine.

The floors are watered in the morning and evening because they need to be wet ahead of the tiling project.

At the back of the house, the workers were hard at work putting the finishing touches on the staircase that will lead people to the roof where, as aforementioned, there will be a porch where people can relax.

On the upstairs porch, there is a sitting area where people will be relaxing, and it has already been installed. Just behind it is a shiny grey flat roof that has been neatly installed with tiles on the side.

Although they had dug a well just outside the house, they realised that there was a stone at the bottom and that caused them to abandon it and dig another one.

"We had a big challenge when digging wells because the first one had a stone. The second one was also challenging because sand kept on sliding in it whenever it rains and now I have to make other arrangements on it," said the young man.

Man builds mansion 5 months after losing another

In another story, Njenga Mwoha managed to rebuild a beautiful mansion for his family just five months after their initial home was tragically consumed by fire.

Before the fateful evening of September 3, 2023, Njenga and his family were enjoying the comforts of a warm and welcoming home.

The house boasted modern construction, finishing, and furnishings, as the initial construction of the house started when he began his life with his wife.
