Nakuru - The country is still reeling from shock after floods swept away several homes in Kamuchiri Village, Mai Mahiu.

The tragedy happened after a dam at Old Kijabe burst its banks on Sunday, April 28, at night.

Naivasha Police Commander Stephen Kirui confirmed the incident, noting that several people had been rushed to Naivasha Hospital for treatment.

Kirui said the dam burst its banks, sweeping through villages and cutting off traffic on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

Images of houses covered in mud and roofs strewn all over dominated social media platforms as Kenyans consoled the victims of the tragedy.

However, amidst the trail of pain and destruction, a storey building standing tall has caught the attention of Kenyans online.

Surrounded by a perimeter wall, the house stands out in an open field covered with muddy water and debris, a testament to the severity of the incident.

Most social media users commented on the house, with some pointing out that it was an act of God that it survived the tragedy.

The contractor behind the building has also received plaudits with claims that the house was built to overcome such incidents.

Mercy Wanjeri said:

Several people feared dead in Murang'a

In another sad incident, a devastating tragedy unfolded in Kiganjo village, Gitugi Ward, in Mathioya Constituency, following increased rainfall in the country.

On Monday, April 29, three houses were destroyed by landslides, claiming the lives of at least four individuals, with two more individuals still unaccounted for.

Tragically, families found themselves buried under the debris alongside their livestock, compounding the horror of the situation.
