After attributing the incident to the ongoing heavy rains, the governor urged the rental house tenants to keep their homes off.

"Visited a site in Ruaka, in Kiambaa Sub County, where a section of the perimeter wall of a residential apartment collapsed on an adjacent iron-sheet residential structure due to the ongoing heavy rains, resulting in the death of one resident and injuring another," Wamatangi said.

The Kiambu governor has directed all tenants in the affected plot to relocate until the department can provide an occupational certificate attesting to the building's safety.

He said a multi-agency team will investigate the matter to assure residents of their safety.

“No one will live in these houses until we complete investigations and approve that the houses are safe for people to live in them. We have given you two hours to take important items to your houses. We will then seal the houses," he added.
