Kiambu - One person in Gitaru village in Kabete has been killed after a three-storey building collapsed.

In the Friday, May 31 afternoon incident, the Kenya Red Cross Society said they had rescued one person from the rubble.

The society further stated that other people were still trapped under the building as rescue operations continued.

"One person rescued, others feared trapped after a three-storey building collapsed in Gitaru, Kiambu County.

Kenya Red Cross first responders, alongside a multi-agency team, are currently conducting rescue efforts to reach those suspected to be trapped," said the agency.

According to preliminary reports, the building was being demolished to pave the way for the construction of the interchange at Gitaru.
