A local Good Samaritan is urgently seeking assistance for two young children left to fend for themselves after their mother abandoned them to marry another man.

Why did the woman leave her kids?

According to the concerned citizen, the children's mother left them after her new husband-to-be expressed a strong dislike for the kids.

This distressing situation has forced the siblings to live alone, taking on the burdens of cooking, cleaning, and other daily tasks typically managed by adults.

The Good Samaritan, reaching out to social activist Ndungi Nyoro for help, highlighted the dire conditions under which the children live.

Children have not been going to school

"Watoto wameachewa kwa ploti. Mkubwa ako 7 years hapo mwingine ako aged 5 years if I'm not wrong. Wanajipikia, an kufua, shule hawaendi," the Samaritan shared.

She further indicated that the older child, seven years old, and the younger, around five, have not been attending school since their abandonment a month ago.

These children, who should be in a nurturing and supportive environment, are now navigating life on their own in a rented plot.

What to do in such a situation

Following the incident, TUKO.co.ke spoke to community worker and human rights activist Juliana Olayo, who works in communities to help children in need.

Juliana shared several steps one could undertake in such a situation to ensure the safety of the children, including ensuring they are in a safe and secure environment.

According to her, one can contact local authorities or child protection services to provide immediate shelter and care.

" If in a position, you can provide essentials such as food, clothing, and hygiene products. Engage local community organizations or charities for assistance," she pointed out.
"Children in such situations may experience trauma. Arrange for counselling and psychological support to help them process their emotions and trauma," she added.

Juliana also pointed out that one should work with child protection services to establish legal guardianship.

Sakaja rescues newborn abandoned by mother

In a separate story, Governor Johnson Sakaja came to the aid of a baby left by his mother unattended in a dilapidated house in Embakasi West.

Gladys Atieno's neighbours raised the alarm after finding the newborn baby on a wet mattress with the mother nowhere to be seen.

The 43-year-old woman left the infant six hours after giving birth to go and look for money to pay for rent and food for her three young children.

Atieno told TUKO.co.ke that when the mother returned, she found deeply concerned neighbours carrying the baby.
