On Monday, April 29, a dam at Old Kijabe burst its banks, sweeping away people and houses at Kamuchiri Village in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru county.

Police update indicates 45 bodies have been recovered as the search for missing persons continues.

Nakuru County Police Commander Samue Ndanyi disclosed that 17 of the bodies retrieved were children.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Governor Susan Kihika have visited the scene to console the affected families.

Now, a heartbreaking video has emerged capturing the aftermath of the dam tragedy that has left many Kenyans in shock.

How Kamuchiri Village residents were affected

In the video shared by Larry Madowo, properties worth millions of shillings were destroyed as the flood waters washed away structures and vehicles.

The heart-wrenching video showed heartbroken residents trying to search for the bodies of their loved ones thought to be trapped in the mud.

Residents say the full extent of the damage is not yet clear, and there are fears the death toll could rise as the search-and-rescue operation continues.

In another video, severely damaged vehicles swept away after heavy floods on the busy Nairobi-Naivasha Highway in the Mai-Mahiu area are seen in the debris.

Floods kill 3 in Homa Bay

Elsewhere, tragedy struck Kisaku village in Sindo town as the community lost three lives in the wake of torrential rains and flash floods.

Among the victims were a mother and her child, who were swept away while travelling towards the town on Sunday, April 28.

In addition to the fatalities, two individuals sustained injuries, and two others remain unaccounted for, compounding the anguish of the village.

At the same time, 50 households were forced to flee their homes, as reported by Ramogi TV.
