Police have addressed a viral clip showing a man being robbed in front of a police station in Kilifi.

The man, seemingly drunk, was captured walking as a loner before two other men onboard a motorcycle appeared.

They slowed down before one of them alighted and carried out a sweep kick on the 'drunk' man, who got to the ground without any resistance.

The two men on the motorcycle robbed him before they later sped off, leaving their 'victim' on the ground, with onlookers expressing shock given the display was near the aforesaid police station.

The video was uploaded to the short-video streaming platform TikTok and spread to other platforms like X (previously Twitter).

Those reacting to the events in the clip argued the police at the station must be toothless for such scenes to happen in their vicinity.

Having fallen prey to the events in the clip, the concerned netizens were disturbed by the apparent bravery of criminals to undertake their acts near state security installations.

What did police in Kilifi say?

Reacting to the accusations sent their way, the police flagged the contents of the clip as prank gimmicks.

A police report sighted by TUKO.co.ke states that the trio had sought to perform their display at a nearby canteen but were barred.

"It was reported by one Roy Rick Otieno, the manager AP canteen Kilifi that today at around 0830hrs a stranger entered the said canteen and approached a steward who was cleaning requesting for permission to shoot a video inside the premise. He was denied but went ahead and stage-managed a prank together with his three accomplices; one guy pretended to be drunk and got robbed by two other guys who were on a motorcycle while another was recording," read the report partly.

The police decried being painted in a bad light by the content creators whose production suggested they (police) are laxed and insensitive to insecurity.

The law enforcers said action had been taken against the trio of TikTokers.
