In April, TUKO.co.ke shared the heartbreaking story of Maryline Brenda Achieng, who was on the verge of dropping out of school due to a lack of fees.

With accumulated fee arrears amounting to KSh 117,000, the Form Four student at Achego Girls High School had given up on education.

She disclosed plans to seek employment as a maid to raise school fees, a declaration that worried her guardian sister, Emily Judith Akoth.

With the second term approaching and additional levies of KSh 6,000 added to the existing arrears, she feared Maryline's future would be shattered.

The concerned guardian sought assistance from the public through TUKO.co.ke to ensure the bright girl completes her education.

She urged well-wishers to support the youngster in any way possible so that she could return to school before she became a maid.

Maryline finds sponsor

In a story with a happy ending, a well-wisher heard the cries and offered to educate the teenager through high school.

Kisumu social media influencer Kelly Ken Rodgers Odinga disclosed that the sponsor came forth in time for the new term.

“The well-wisher has already paid the fees to the school and promised to clear the arrears,” he said.

A fee demand note sent to the student shows that her current balance is KSh 103,000, which is required for the second term.

Maryline’s story of struggle

Challenges have marked Maryline's journey since her mother passed away when she was just nine months old.

Since the loss, the bright orphan has primarily been raised by her elder sister alongside seven other siblings.

Emily, a single mother, disclosed that Maryline's education has been a constant struggle due to financial constraints.

With four university students and two high school students, the burden has been overwhelming for her.
