Former Machakos's first lady, Lilian Nganga, has addressed the recent statements made by First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto, who attributed the strengthening of the Kenya Shilling to prayers.

Additionally, the first lady credited the success of the Kenya Kwanza regime to divine intervention.

During the launch of empowerment projects for women, youth, and people with disabilities in Kajiado, Rachel acknowledged the government’s resilience in overcoming challenges through prayer.

"When the drought came along, we turned to God in prayer, and He answered with rains. We have also seen the Kenya shilling strengthen against the US Dollar, from 165 to 145 and onto 135 and 130, and now it keeps gaining. If not God, then who else?" Mama Rachel said.

In response, Nganga retweeted a video of the first lady’s remarks and urged her to refrain from attributing the appreciation of the Kenya shilling against the dollar solely to divine intervention.

“Please stop,” the mother of one appealed.

President Ruto takes pride in strong KSh

In a separate article, President William Ruto promised Kenyans further ease in inflation as prices of food and fuel continue to stabilise.

Ruto spoke after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reduced prices of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene down by KSh 5.31, KSh 10 and KSh 18.68 per litre, respectively.

Speaking in Nyeri on Sunday, April 14, the head of state attributed the strength of the shilling and drop in fuel and unga prices to the tough fiscal measures his government took in the past year.

Ruto challenged all leaders to lead from the front, citing that developed countries made the right decisions.

Currently, in Nairobi, a litre of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene retails at KSh 193.85, KSh 180.38, and KSh 170.06, respectively.
