Kiambu - The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has extended its gratitude to Limuru residents.

Kenya Power, the country’s main electricity provider, has been affected by the ongoing heavy rains in multiple ways.

The utility was in the Kware area to reinstall a transformer in the area after days of being in darkness.

While driving through the muddy paths, their lorry got stuck, forcing them to seek help from Evans Wanjiku, a local leader.

In a video shared online, the locals can be seen tying a heavy rope on the truck before starting to pull in sequence.

They cheered with every move the lorry made until they got to a gate where they got stuck for some time.

"Umoja ni nguvu!! We thank our customers at Kware area in Nyataragi, Limuru - led by the residents association chairman, Evans Wanjiku - for helping out when our truck got stuck in the mud while on the way to reinstall their transformer," KPLC posted online.

What is Kenya Power's promise to Kware residents

The Kenya Power acknowledged that they were still in the process of attaining perfection while serving Kiambu county.

However, they assured residents that their teams remain committed to providing consistent and reliable electricity.

"We still have a lot of work to do, but our Kiambu team is dedicated to ensuring that we have stable and reliable electricity supply in the county, one step at a time. Hongera!" they added.

KPLC backup plan for blackouts

Earlier, KPLC, in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, unveiled a backup National Control Centre to minimise these outages.

Kenya Power managing director Joseph Siror revealed that the facility was set up in the Coast region at a cost of KSh 50 million.

The facility aims to safeguard the electricity supply's security, providing an alternative despatch point in case of failure of the main control centre.
