A 74-year-old man stranded on Ndieni Island in Machakos County for seven days has been rescued.

How did Machakos man end up stranded?

The man reportedly remained trapped on the island without food and basic necessities after River Athi flooded.

According to a report by Citizen TV, the man, referred to as Nyolo Ngeti, went to tend his cattle on the island before the water level rose, barring him from returning to the mainland.

Upon being rescued, the man said that he only survived on the flood water. He further urged people to keep away from flooded areas.

“I have suffered on the island, and I thank Governor Wavinya Ndeti for organising a boat to rescue me," he said.

Man beaten after being rescued from floods

In other news, a video of a man struggling for survival after trying to cross a flooded river before his rescue on Tuesday, April 30, elicited diverse responses on social media.

Following his rescue from potential drowning, the man received a thorough beating from his rescuer for trying to cross the swiftly flowing waters.

The video showed the man grabbing him to the safer side before starting to beat him. Those around seemingly cheering on the man for what online users said was a reminder.

Eric Omondi rescues residents trapped by floods

Elsewhere, comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi helped rescue a section of Nairobi residents affected by the recent flash floods.

In a video online Eric Omondi is seen navigating the boat through the murky floodwaters.

In a dramatic sequence, the camera captures submerged houses, their roofs occupied by stranded residents awaiting rescue.

Omondi, courageously navigates towards the houses, methodically assisting the stranded individuals to safety on dry land.
