A Meru politician and businessman has expressed distress after his evening celebration took a dark turn on his journey home.

Michael Makarina recounted how his trusted driver, unexpectedly abandoned him in a moving vehicle, leaving him stranded in the middle of the road.

The ordeal escalated as Makarina, who also lives with a disability, discovered that the driver had allegedly stolen KSh 800,000 in cash and a Samsung Fold phone valued at KSh 220,000 from him.

"My driver just stole over KSh 800,000 from me, including a Samsung Fold worth KSh 220,000, while we were on our way from Meru Night. He left me in the car while it was moving, and I almost died. If anyone comes across him, please report to the nearest police station.
He abandoned me in the middle of the road, taking my phone, cash, and withdrawing money from various mobile money accounts," he said.

Adding to the betrayal, the driver allegedly withdrew funds from Makarina's various mobile money accounts, compounding the financial loss.

In his plea for assistance, the politician appealed for help locating the suspect, emphasising that he is known to many individuals.

"If you encounter this individual, please report immediately or call me at 0700000011. Kindly help me spread this message," added Makarina.

Nairobi woman steals employer's KSh 3.2m car

Elsewhere, a woman was charged with stealing a Range Rover Evoque valued at KSh 3.2 million from Revere Technologies Limited and owned by her employer.

The accused's lawyer asked the court to release her on lenient bail conditions, arguing that her young child was left alone and traumatised after her arrest.

She was released on KSh 500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum or on bail in the sum of KSh 100,000 with two sureties despite her lawyer's plea for mercy.
