Migori - Police in Migori county have launched investigations after a building collapsed, killing one person in Nyatike sub-county.

On Sunday, April 28, a congregant with the Maranatha Faith Assembly Church died, and four others sustained injuries after the wall of a building under construction collapsed.

How did a church wall collapse in Migori County?

Area Assistant Chief Richard Juma said the church services had just ended when the incident happened.

After the service ended, the deceased and the injured stayed in the church, discussing church matters when the wall collapsed.

The deputy chief reported that the man passed away on the scene, while the injured were quickly taken to Migori Level Four Hospital for medical care.

Preliminary investigations indicated the ongoing heavy rains might have contributed to the collapse of the building.

The chief said the matter is being investigated by the police who also came to the scene immediately after the accident.

He further pleaded with members of the public to be careful at this time of heavy rains across the country.

Ruaka wall kills one person

In other sad news, one person was confirmed dead after a perimeter wall collapsed in Ruaka, Kiambu county.

Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi confirmed the Monday, April 22 incident, saying three others were injured.

Wamatangi said the incident happened after a perimeter wall of a residential apartment collapsed on an adjacent iron-sheet residential house.

After attributing the incident to the ongoing heavy rains, the governor urged the rental house tenants to keep their homes off.

The Kiambu governor has directed all tenants in the affected plot to relocate until the department can provide an occupational certificate attesting to the building's safety.
