Miguna Miguna has defended Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen on leakages at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA)Terminal IC following the heavy rains in the country since April.

While defending Murkomen, Miguna said the leakage at JKIA was a result of corruption that had been around before he assumed office.

"It is corruption, not new corruption but old corruption. I see people blaming Murkomen. But honestly, the roof was constructed before Murkomen was the minister. The leakages have been there," Miguna said.

What Miguna thinks is the cause of JKIA leakages

According to Miguna, the leakage at the airport is caused by the quality of the material, as well as the structural comprise that emerged due to corruption.

"Leakage at the JKIA is because of quality structural wise, which were already in existence. Maybe the blame should be on why did you not detect it during your time. You have to give him a little bit of slack, but it is corruption," he explained.

Miguna said the contractor and the insurer should be held accountable for failing to secure the building to the required standard.

He opposed the move by the government to allocate the money for renovations, yet the building is insured.

"Who was given the contract, if he failed to secure the facility, that person should be brought back to repair the leakages. No facility is not insured. The insurance company should be insuring the damages. Why haven't they given the money to repair the facility? The contractor and the insurer should be looked for but why hasn't the government taken the matter to court?" Miguna questioned.

Transport paralysed at JKIA

On Friday, April 26, travel was halted after flash floods wrecked the airport.

Travelers were forced to delay their flights while others were scheduled with other airlines.

A viral clip showed a section of the airport flooded a few months after CS Murkomen visited and confirmed repairs being undertaken.
