Kampala, Uganda - Equity Bank in Soroti experienced a moment of tension as armed robbers attempted to raid the banking hall on Tuesday, April 23.

Fortunately, the law enforcers swiftly reported to the scene, but the suspects fled the scene without gaining access to the institution.

Reassuringly, no individuals were harmed during the incident, and no property or money was taken.

Following the event, the police brought in both the security guards and their supervisor for questioning.

"On Tuesday 23, an attempt was made to rob Equity Bank in Soroti City. Our joint task team from the police and UPDF responded swiftly and staged at the bank. Our prior investigations indicate that the suspects escaped from the scene after failing to access the banking hall. No one was hurt, and no property or money was stolen. A security guard and his supervisor are being interrogated as part of our investigations," read the police report.

Equity resumes normal operations

In response to the situation, Equity Bank and the police promptly issued a statement to inform its customers that normal operations had resumed.

"The bank is safe, and its operations are back to normal. The general security situation in Soroti city remains peaceful and calm. More updates will be communicated in due course," added the report.

Eastleigh businessman robbed KSh 3.9 million

Meanwhile, police in Nairobi county were investigating an incident where armed robbers shot a 26-year-old man in Eastleigh on Saturday, March 30.

A video that captured the incident emerged showing two assailants on a motorbike intercepting the businessman, who was also on a motorbike heading to deposit money at a local bank.

The robber immediately grabbed the KSh 3.97 million, wrapped in green paper, and fled the scene, leaving the man on the ground wounded.
