Nairobi - The last few weeks have witnessed major realignments in the politics of the Mt Kenya region.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been the centre of disquiet amid claims that he's being mistreated by his boss, President William Ruto.

This was coupled with the Limuru 2 meeting organised by opposition politicians led by Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua.

The meeting passed several resolutions, including the birth of a new political outfit to champion the region's interests.

Calls for the region to unite have been at the centre of both camps, with the DP making his latest appeal to retired president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Why is Ngunyi against Mt Kenya unity?

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has warned the vote-rich region against uniting to unseat Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement on Wednesday, May 22, Ngunyi stated that the adventure had already been compromised as the scheme was revealed early.

The lawyer claimed that the wider GEMA is in two, and he would lead the charge against the calls for unity.

"Mountain Kikuyus are uniting to remove ruto in 2027. Nothing more. Nothing less. This is a foolish suicidal scheme revealed too early. I am a valley Kikuyu and I will lead the rebellion against gema unity. Kikuyus are different. Valley Kikuyus will not be used by Mt Kikuyus," he wrote.

Ngunyi warns Gachagua against handshake with Uhuru

Earlier, Ngunyi cautioned the deputy president against burying the hatchet with former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a statement on Saturday, May 18, Ngunyi warned that any handshake with Uhuru would undermine Gachagua's relationship with Ruto.

According to Ngunyi, the president and his predecessor are not on good political terms; hence, it would be counterproductive for Gachagua to oppose his boss's position.

Ngunyi argued that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance team defeated Uhuru's candidate in the 2022 presidential election; hence, there was no need to seek political dalliance.
