Mwangi Wa Iria, the former governor of Murang'a county, has finally shown up at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) Police Station after weeks of avoiding arrest.

Why is EACC going after Mwangi Wa Iria?

Wa Iria, his wife Jane Waigwe, and his brother-in-law are among those suspected of embezzling the county's funds through the procurement of illegal tenders during his time in office.

EACC reported that the ex-governor had shown up at the police post for fingerprint taking and statement recording following Justice Nixon Sifuna's order to have them processed before appearing before the Chief Magistrate's Court.

"Murang'a County graft suspects Mwangi Wa Iria and co-accused are currently at EACC Police Station for fingerprint taking and statement recording. This is after Justice Prof Nixon Sifuna yesterday ordered the suspects to immediately appear before EACC for processing and proceed to the Chief Magistrate's Court this morning to take the plea," read a statement by EACC.

The DPP approved charges against the ex-county boss after the investigations by EACC that linked Wa Iria to the KSh 140 million graft case.

He will be arraigned in court on Tuesday, April 30 to take a plea.

Gideon Moi urges Mwangi to pray for enemies

Meanwhile, while attending the burial of the late June Moi in Nakuru, former Baringo senator Gideon Moi advised Wa Iria to pray for EACC officials who were after him.

Gideon said the officials deserve prayers and accommodation at servants' quarters when they make it to heaven someday.

The ex-Baringo senator was referring to a quote in the Bible that urges people to pray for those who wrong them.
