Nairobi - A woman has taken to social media to narrate lessons she picked from her pregnancy experience.

Achieng Atieno revealed she never knew that hunger could make pregnant women faint. She learned that when she was pregnant with her daughter.

She disclosed that she never used to eat lunch because the food was quite expensive at her workplace, with the cheapest being around KSh 200.

Why Nairobi woman never ate at vibandas

The doting mother added that it was cheaper in vibandas, but she could not bear that environment in her pregnant state.

"My pregnancy hated vibandas because you found men who smelled like oil in that place. Most of them were mechanics and would frequent the vibandas, and that smell of oil made me puke. So I stayed hungry during lunch hour and only ate at home in the evening.
I did not have the luxury of carrying lunch because I often made ugali and sukuma for supper, and I wouldn't say I liked eating any meal twice a day. So I only ate the sukuma in the evening," she penned.

Achieng noted feeling dizzy or fainting by 3pm, with her colleagues coming to her rescue. They would remove her clothes as they looked for a well-ventilated place to lay her down.

She recalled the guy who always helped her whenever she fainted.

"And then it hit me that my fainting spells were because of hunger. When I got home and felt the spells, I'd immediately drink tea and last night's ugali and return to life. From that day onwards, if a pregnant woman told me that they were hungry, I would always buy food for them and even buy more for them to carry," she said, noting that she knew it was hunger.
