A video has surfaced online showing a young boy performing a dance routine perilously close to the edge of the swollen Chinga Dam in Nyeri County.

The footage has gone viral on social media and has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for increased parental supervision.

Youngster endangered his life

Despite the apparent danger, the young boy in the video seemed oblivious to the risks as he danced just inches away from the turbulent waters.

Netizens condemned the act, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety warnings, especially during the rainy season.

Most of them imagined what could happen if the water level rose and swept him off his feet.

Their concerns stem from the recent floods, which carried away several people, houses, and cars.

Parents should take care of kids

The Chinga Dam, known for its scenic beauty, has become a hazard zone due to the heavy rains that have caused the water levels to rise significantly.

Many opined that parents and guardians must take responsibility for the safety of their children and ensure they do not engage in such behaviour.

According to them, it was sad that the boy's mother was most probably praying for the son's welfare while he was doing the opposite.

Others argued that citizens sometimes blame the government for their recklessness.

Pick-up swept away with passengers in Baringo

Elsewhere, passengers cheated death in Baringo after the driver of the pick-up they were in attempted to cross a flooded river.

From the onset, it was evident that the raging water was too strong for the vehicle, but the driver decided otherwise.

It dawned on him that ignoring advice from onlookers was a wrong decision when the pick-up overturned and landed upside down in the water.

Flooding in Kenya

• As of Wednesday, May 01, 2024, government statistics showed that 179 Kenyans had lost their lives following the ongoing flooding in the country.
• The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) closed key roads in Nairobi and Kiambu counties, which had been rendered impassable by the floods.
• President William Ruto also directed the Ministry of Education to suspend the school opening date indefinitely until the situation stabilizes.
