Nyeri - The police have launched an investigation into the death of an 18-year-old girl who was found dead in her parents' home.

Faith Ngina, a former student of Mahiga Girls High School, was found dead on Thursday, April 18, as the family was planning to go on a trip to Makueni.

A report by Nation revealed that the local police were looking to find out whether the young girl drank herself to death.

Othaya Sub-County Police Commander Samuel Gitau disclosed that detectives had taken samples from Ngina for a toxicology analysis at a laboratory in Nairobi.

"There are issues arising from that require further investigation, in conjunction with results of the post-mortem examination," said the police boss.

Before her sudden demise, Ngina had reportedly been beaten by her stepfather for having a relationship they didn't consent to.

Faith Ngina's involvement in substance abuse

Ngina's mother, Christine Mukavi, revealed that her daughter had confessed during past confrontation to be using banned substances.

Mukavi claimed Ngina's lover had introduced her to using drugs, adding that her behaviour had changed the month leading up to her death.

"She had told me that she was introduced to drugs by her boyfriend with whom she had a romantic relationship," she said.

The distraught mum said Ngina had run away from home three times in the past month without remorse.

On the night Ngina got into an altercation with her father, she had been missing for a day. He had been upset about the girl's repeated behaviour of running away from home and living with her boyfriend.

Man kills son over birth certificate

In other news, police in Murang'a county arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly hacked to death his five-year-old son following a dispute with the mother over the boy's birth certificate.

Paul Njuguna, TUKO.co.ke gathered, was alleged to have killed Collins Waweru while asleep at his grandparents' home at Ndutumi village in Kiharu.

Confirming the murder incident, Murang'a county police commander Josephat Kinyua disclosed the suspect first confronted an aunt to the deceased who was taking care of the boy at the time together with her two-year-old son.

On the material day, the suspect allegedly arrived at the boy's grandmother's place at around 8pm armed with a machete and lay in wait behind the house but struck just before the family could sleep.
