TV host and comedian Dr Ofweneke is fuming after fast-rising rapper Stoopid Boy abruptly cancelled their scheduled TV interview.

Should TV stations pay artistes for interviews?

Speaking after Stoopid Boy declined to attend the interview at TV47, Ofweneke said the Gbag Na Jug hitmaker wanted to be paid.

The seemingly agitated Dr Ofweneke explained to his studio audience that Stoopid Boy shot himself in the foot by pulling the stunt early in his career.

"Stoopid Boy cancelled at the last minute because he wanted to be paid. So, Stoopid Boy, just wait, we will pay you.
When you seek to promote your third or fourth single and look for Ofweneke to promote, we shall remember. We shall revisit," said Dr Ofweneke.

Stoopid Boy's action, however, split opinions, with many supporting his demand for pay. Others, led by Oga Obinna, called out the rapper.

Oga Obinna:

"He lived up to his name."

Vitukozadifre:

“He thinks being famous is everything in life. These shows help a lot.”

Bromio:

"The reason why Kenyan artistes don’t go international."

Ray:

"The most important question is how much he asked for?"

Glamroot:

"You get paid to do the show, but you want him to interview for free, and when he refuses, you insult him. It's the audacity and hypocrisy for me."

Kalif:

"Foreign artistes coming to Kenya and getting paid for an interview why not our own?"

Neshky:

"But at the same time, no matter how underrated he is, he knows his value."

Slim:

“The only free things in Nairobi are pregnancies and sicknesses. Big respect to Stoopid Boy."

Djkaroski:

"He needs to be paid.”

How did Ofweneke lose dream job?

Two weeks ago, the comedian recounted how a joke against the LGBTQ community cost his dream radio job.

Opening up during an YouTube interview with fellow comic Obinna, Dr Ofweneke said he was summarily dismissed after joking about the differences in farting habits between gay and straight individuals.

Dr Ofweneke said he was unaware that his boss was a member of the LGBTQ community.
