President William Ruto's nominee for Consul General to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Charles Githinji, left Kenyans stunned as he failed to correctly explain the meaning of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Speaking before the National Assembly Committee on Defence on April 11, Githinji said that GDP is equivalent to a country's total population.

"It is the current population and the escalation of the population of that country," he said.

Upon being asked further questions, the committee's chair Nelson Koech expressed his disappointment with Githinji, saying that he was surprised by his lack of preparation.

Forgive him for his name has already been approved.

What is Gross Domestic Product (GDP)?

GDP refers to the total market value of all final goods and services produced within a country's economy over a specific time frame.

This encompasses goods and services produced by economic agents within the country, regardless of ownership, and excludes items that are resold.

The GDP is a widely used indicator worldwide to measure a nation's overall output and economic activity.

Tourism CS nominee fails to impress Kenyans during vetting

In other news, then Tourism Cabinet Secretary nominee Peninah Malonza failed to impress Kenyans during vetting.

Those who commented on her responses said she lacked a clear understanding of the issues affecting the ministry she was nominated to head.

Some Kenyans argued that her way of answering questions cast doubt on her suitability for the tasks ahead of her.
