Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri has called out senior government officials who operate as hypocrites.

This he said about leaders who act friendly with the president during the day but go behind his back during the night.

"Some elected leaders in the government occupy high seats, and we know them by name and action. Those leaders are always planning to sabotage Ruto at night, but they walk with him during the day," he said.

He further stated that those leaders try to unite leaders from Mount Kenya at night explaining to them how people from central are being denied their rights.

These words came after Deputy Rigathi Gachagua stated that people from Mt. Kenya deserve more development funds than people from other regions. Ngunjiri asserted that Gachagua should instead call for the unity of the people of Kenya.

What did Gachagua say

Earlier, Gachagua joined a section of Mt Kenya leaders who have been advocating for the one man, one shilling.

During a church service in Embu County on Sunday, May 12, Gachagua said he was a proponent of the equal sharing of resources.

According to Gachagua, having a larger population means they pay more taxes and, hence, need to receive more resources.

He explained that having a constituency with 14,000 people get the same resources as one with 800,000 people was unfair.

Why Mt.Kenya should not complain about taxes?

Earlier, on March 3, ODM leader Raila Odinga hit out at a section of Mt Kenya leaders complaining about punitive taxes as contained in the Finance Bill 2023.

Raila said it was hypocritical for Kenya Kwanza MPs to oppose the implementation of a bill they overwhelmingly supported.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader recalled instructing opposition lawmakers to reject the bill for being punitive.

The former prime minister said he was shocked to hear a section of Mt Kenya lawmakers complaining about the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (Etims), which seeks to tax farmers, including those involved in avocado farming.
