South Africa: A five-storey apartment block under construction has collapsed, killing six people with many others still trapped under the debris.

World Is One News said 28 people had been pulled out of the debris of the building which collapsed on Monday, May 6, in Cape Town, South Africa.

Rescue teams say six people have been killed, and 47 people unaccounted for after a multi-story construction building collapsed.

Among the 47 missing are 11, with contact established by the rescue team on site.

"We are in contact with 11 people. They've been down there for more than 24 hours now, that's a long time," provincial premier Alan Winde said at media brief.

The authorities said they had advised the 11 to switch their phones on and off to preserve battery power.

"Once we have got all the people we know about out, we will start a process called delayering. We would then start lifting the different floors off each other," Colin Deiner, head of rescue operations, said.

Preliminary reports indicate 75 construction workers were on site when the building collapsed.

How many people were rescued in the Uthiru building

In other news, all tenants in the Uthiru building collapse incident in Nairobi have been accounted for.

The Kenya Red Cross said one tenant was rushed to hospital by well-wishers with ten others treated at the scene by the Red Cross Action team.

Nairobi Chief Disaster Management Officer Bramwell Simiyu said concerns about four missing residents had been cleared earlier.

The 5-storey apartment block collapsed on Tuesday evening, with videos shared online showing the apartment block tilted to the side.
