Preliminary investigations by the police indicate a tyre burst caused the crash.

The police also said the poor state of the road in the Teso sub-region, caused by recent heavy rains, could have contributed to the accident.

"Our roads are not that good, and drivers sometimes fail to respect the road rules and regulations, which I strongly encourage them to do. For instance, checking vehicles before setting off is very important and highly recommended," Obukulem said as reported by Daily Monitor.

Bodies of the five were moved to the Amukuria General Hospital mortuary, while those injured were also rushed to the same hospital.
