In a statement on Wednesday, April 24, the county chief revealed she was at the Graceland Estate, where floods cut off numerous houses.

Wavinya said she had joined the Kenya Red Cross Society and county first responders in the complex operation.

"Currently overseeing rescue operations in Graceland Estate in Athiriver, where dozens of homes have been marooned by flood waters following heavy rains last night. Our emergency responders have teamed up with teams from the Kenya Red Cross Society and the National Disaster Management unit to save lives and property," she wrote.

Number flood victims in Kenya continue to rise

Heavy downpours leading to floods have been experienced in Nairobi since Tuesday night, April 23.

Motorists navigated through the flooded city streets, with some driving through the water. Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) cautioned Nairobi residents to steer clear of flooded highways.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs report shared by Reliefweb indicated at least 32 people died while 25 others were injured as a result of heavy rains as of April 19.

Relief efforts led by national authorities with support from humanitarian partners are helping to deliver assistance to 20,590 people, according to the published data.

In other news, a viral video captured the intense moment a man struggles to survive after being swept away by floodwaters in Nairobi.

In the harrowing clip, particles were visible on the man's shoulder, and he gasped for air.

The individual who shared the clip online claimed that the man was swept away from South C to JKIA and was saved by a ditch.
