KPLC token meters have various uses, ranging from reloading tokens to checking your meter number and electricity usage. However, you cannot do all this efficiently if your KPLC token meter is not connecting. So, how do you fix it?

TABLE OF CONTENTS

When your KPLC token meter is not connecting, reloading tokens after depletion can be frustrating, especially in darkness. However, if you can identify some of the malfunctions causing the disconnection, you can easily fix them.

Why your KPLC token meter is not connecting, and how to fix it

Are you wondering why your token is not connecting to your meter? Below are some reasons why your KPLC token meter may fail to connect.

  • Low or no battery of your CIU
  • Your consumer interface unit is not connected to the power
  • There is a disconnection between the meter and the CIU
  • Faulty CIU cable
  • Token entry lockout is active
  • The meter is a full or expired token
  • There is a power outage
  • Tripped circuit breakers
  • Terminal cover open
  • Damaged meter components

How to fix the KPLC CIU connect error

Faulty KPLC CIU cable could be faulty, causing you to fix issues with your KPLC token meter in various ways. Here are some of the ways to fix your CIU malfunction:

1. Replace your batteries with new ones

If your CIU meter is not connecting, you should check the batteries. Ensure they are properly inserted and not drained. If they are drained, replace or recharge them to ensure a successful connection.

2. Plug directly into an electric wall

You can also fix the KPLC CIU connect error by confirming that sufficient power is entering the CIU. You can do this by plugging it directly into an electric outlet, such as a wall socket, without using a power extension cable.

3. Connect to the socket previously used to load tokens

Most individuals try to connect the gadget to several sockets, which should not be the case. When connecting your CIU cable, it should be on the socket the CIU has been connected to alone. You should ensure your CIU has well-powered batteries to communicate with the meter. Once new batteries are installed in the device, use the same socket previously used to load tokens.

4. Replace your CIU cable or adapter

The cable or adapter connecting your Consumer Interface Unit (CIU) to the power outlet could be defective. To solve the problem, you should try a different cable or adapter.

5. Wait for the token entry lockout time to elapse

Token entry lockout occurs when the token entered has expired, is incorrect, or is invalid. An expired token occurs when a token has an ID older than the oldest token loaded on the meter.

As a result, the token automatically locks itself for a period displayed on your CIU's screen. Once the lockout time has elapsed, you should enter a valid and correct token number.

6. Use the token for another time

Your meter is not accepting your token because the credit loaded from a token takes the credit balance over the maximum amount allowed for the meter. In such a case, you should keep the token safe for another time.

7. Check if there is a power connection

Another reason your KPLC token machine is not working is a power outage. You should check the meter boxes to ensure that there is power. If there is, the meter should blink red.

If no light is in the meter box, this should be ruled out as a power outage. The only thing you can do is wait for the power to be back.

8. Reset your circuit breaker to 'on' position if tripped

You should also check if your meter's circuit breaker hasn't tripped and is in the 'on' position. In case of a trip, you should reset the breaker back on and try reloading the tokens again.

9. Engage a trained electrician

Another reason your meter is not accepting your token could be an open terminal cover, a negative digit error, or a KPLC bypass error. These errors can be caused by the interlocking or touching the earth and neutral wires. A bypass error may be due to stolen electricity creating a tamper code that affects your token reloading process.

An open terminal cover occurs when the terminal cover is not fitted correctly during meter commissioning or when entering a clear tamper token. You must engage a trained electrician to resolve the issue.

10. Replace your meter

Sometimes, the meter's internal parts could be damaged or faulty. In such cases, you should contact KPLC customer service to arrange for your KPLC token meter replacement. However, you should do this once all other solutions have failed to resolve the issue.

Wrapping up

Several reasons explain why your KPLC token meter is not connecting. This can be frustrating, especially if you don't know how to troubleshoot the problem, leading to a prolonged time to get power back within a short time. However, you can troubleshoot these issues and restore power in no time.
