Even when it was first built in 1932, 141 S. Carolwood Drive was viewed as one of Los Angeles's most desired properties. Today, the estate remains one of the area's most iconic and historically significant properties—and it's for sale.

Known as Owlwood, the Italian Renaissance–style mansion was designed by acclaimed architect Robert D. Farquhar and spans more than 10 acres of land in Holmby Hills. The nine-bedroom, 10-bathroom residence features detailed moldings, marble fireplaces, hand-carved mantles, grand crystal chandeliers, and elaborate 24-gold carat bath fixtures.

With the home's historic architecture in mind, architects Meyer Davis Studio, KAA Design Group, and Plus Development have developed a plan that will preserve the mansion, but make it more suitable for modern living.

Perhaps one of its most riveting selling points: A 2011 book, Unreal Estate, by Michael Gross reveals the mansion's long list of high-profile homeowners and the interesting events that took place behind closed doors, including an affair between 20th Century Fox co-founder Joseph Schenck and Marilyn Monroe, and Cher and Sonny Bono's choice to occupy separate wings once CBS threatened to cancel their show if either moved out.

Although Cher and Sonny reportedly paid $750,000 for the 12,201-square-foot home in 1972, it is currently on the market with a whopping $180 million dollar price tag. Interested? Take a look around:
