Lidge was a relief pitcher who batted and threw right handed. He played baseball at the University of Notre Dame and won the Big East Conference player of the year award as a junior. He was drafted #17 by the Houston Astros in the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft. Lidge played in the minor leagues before making his MLB debut for the Astros in 2002 where he played until 2007.
