Sam George was a competitive surfer for a number of years before becoming a contributing editor for Surfing magazine. Sam worked for Surfing Magazine from 1983 to 1990. During that time he wrote a column called "Caught Inside."

In 1990 Sam was hired to work at a rival magazine called Surfer. He worked there from 1990 to 1998, at which point he left to work on a book and various other projects, including a free tabloid called SurfNews.

Sam returned to Surfer in 2000, staying this time through 2005.

George has written for the documentaries "Riding Giants," "The Lost Wave," "Crips and Bloods: Made in America," and "Hollywood Don't Surf!."
