Born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1977, Kenny Thomas played high school ball in El Paso, Texas and later Albuquerque, New Mexico before he played college basketball for the University of New Mexico Lobos. The Houston Rockets drafted Thomas with the 22nd overall pick during the first round of the 1999 NBA Draft. Thomas played with the Rockets until 2002 before he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2002. He played in the City of Brotherly Love until 2005. Thomas later played with the Sacramento Kings from 2005 until 2010. He took part in the Memphis Grizzlies' preseason activities in 2010 but was waived in early October before the start of the regular season. Thomas played in more than 600 career regular season games and averaged just over nine points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He made three postseason appearances, first with the 76ers in 2002-03, where he played in 12 games, and later with the Kings in 2004-05 and 2005-06. The six-foot-seven, 245-pound power forward played internationally for the U.S. men's national team, earning a gold medal at the Summer Universiade in 1997 in Trapani.
