Georgia, USA - A sombre atmosphere enveloped Apalachee High School in Georgia following a tragic shooting carried out by a 14-year-old student.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that the attack on Wednesday, September 4, resulted in the deaths of two students and two teachers, with nine others injured, including a teacher.

BBC reported that law enforcement responded promptly, and the suspect, Colt Gray, was identified and surrendered. He is set to face adult charges of murder.

"Law enforcement and two school resource officers arrived within minutes and quickly encountered the subject, who surrendered and lay on the ground before being taken into custody," confirmed local sheriff Jud Smith who described the attack as "pure evil".

What happened before Georgia shooting incident?

According to Alexsandra Romero, a second-year pupil who was in class during the incident, the situation was terrifying as Gray entered the room and ordered everyone to the ground.

"My hands were shaking, and I felt terrible seeing everyone crying and searching for their siblings. I can still vividly recall the blood and the shouting," she said.

The victims included two other 14-year-olds, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, along with teachers Richard Aspenwall and Christina Irimie, as Stars and Stripes reported.

Details have emerged that Gray and his father were interviewed by the FBI in May 2023 regarding online threats that included images of firearms, though Gray denied any involvement.

11 die in Beijing school bus crash

In other news, 11 people, including students, were killed in Beijing, China after a school bus rammed into the learners and parents at the school gate.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle near a school in Shandong.

Social media images showed adults kneeling beside blood-soaked children lying on the road next to a large bus.
