The six governors, led by Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguru, under the banner of G7, expressed optimism that Kawira will emerge victorious.

“We, at this time also express our sincere support to our sister Governor Kawira Mwangaza who wasn’t able to be here today because of the impeachment that she is going through right now and she has to prepare for Monday and Tuesday. We hope that she sails through," Waiguru said.

What was Anne Waiguru's advice to women?

At the same time, Waiguru said G7 was committed to ensuring that the number of women governors rises from seven to at least 24 in 2027.

The Kirinyaga governor said multiple impeachment attempts facing Kawira should not dissuade other women from running for gubernatorial seats in the next general elections.

"That shouldn’t dissuade other women who want to run for the seat of governor. Ours is to encourage other leaders and ourselves as well because as you all know, it’s not easy to be a governor and certainly, not easy to be a woman governor,” Waiguru said.

Apart from Waiguru, Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Fatuma Achani (Kwale), Cecily Mbarire (Embu), and Homa Bay’s Gladys Wanga were present during the media briefing.

What message Kawira Mwangaza shared

Meanwhile, the embattled Meru governor appears unmoved despite facing an impeachment motion in the Senate.

A day after the senators voted to reject the formation of a committee, Kawira turned biblical to indicate she was not worried by the impeachment motion.

Without quoting the exact Bible verse, Kawira said God will always defend and protect against the conspiracy by her enemies.

According to Kawira, God will always ensure you witness the downfall of those planning evil against you.
