Puzzle As Kirinyaga University First-Year Boy Falls Sick On Admission Day, Dies

Bomet - It is a sorrowful moment for a family that has lost a loved one after abruptly falling sick.

Felix Kipyegon passed away days after he was expected to settle in the university but experienced discomfort.

Kipyegon diagnosed with meningitis

The young man was queueing for admission at Kirinyaga University when he complained of a headache.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Bernard Ngeno, a family member, narrated the incident that led to the teenager's death.

"He had gone to school with some friends who also studied there. When they were on the line, he started complaining of a headache. Within a moment, he fainted and was taken to the school's dispensary for first aid," he said.

Kipyegon taken to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital

His health did not improve, and he was rushed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital for further treatment.

The doctors diagnosed the young man who sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2023 and passed with flying colours with bacterial meningitis.

"Immediately, the doctors began treating him. We never imagined he would have such an underlying medical condition. It seemed like it attacked him there and then. When his health did not improve in that hospital, we asked for a referral, and he was taken to Tenwek Hospital, where his health failed to improve again," he heartbreakingly said.

Kipyegon dies in ICU

The doctors diagnosed the Bomet county boy with typhoid meningitis, and another treatment began immediately.

Kipyegon, 19, was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where his health continued to deteriorate.

"It was not long before we lost him in the ICU. Since his demise, we began fundraising for the hospital bill and funeral as well. The parents and the other family members are heartbroken. All we ask is for financial assistance. Contributions can be sent to 0745 471 806," he added.

Eldoret Univerity student dies after admission

Separately, the University of Eldoret mourned the loss of one of its newest students, Kenta Fredrick, who tragically passed away just days after being admitted to campus.

His peers fondly remembered him as a mathematics enthusiast with a bright future.

Stanley Rolihlahla Mandela, a close friend of Kenta, shared a moving tribute on social media, terming him a hero who left too soon.
