On Friday, September 20, all roads led to Serena Hotel, Nairobi, for the auspicious #488ForKibra fundraising dinner.

In attendance were the Guest of Honour, Rev Jesse Mwai -CITAM, Peter Ochieng Orero, Kibra MP, and Cynthia Nyamai, a media personality and the Head of RIG East Africa.

It should be noted that the Kibra lawmaker officiated the black-tie event.

How did #488ForKibra fundraiser dinner go down?

The initiative aimed to transform the Olympic Primary School field in Kibra into a fully-fledged 24-hour multipurpose pitch.

Launched in 2023, this transformative project aims to raise KSh 66 million to convert the Kibra Olympic Primary School pitch into a modern stadium.

This pitch will benefit the 5,500 children in the school and serve the broader Kibra community.

The project goes beyond grass and turf; it's about nurturing dreams, creating opportunities, and building a brighter future for Kenyan children.

Cynthia Nyamai walks from Mombasa to Nairobi

The initiative gained significant momentum when Nyamai undertook a remarkable 488-kilometre walk from Mombasa to Nairobi, raising both awareness and funds for this vital cause.

Nyamai reflected on the journey's challenges and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the community's support and Orero's unwavering commitment and support.

Nyamai's advice to pastors and churches

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Nyamai passionately urged for ongoing support, highlighting the vital role churches play in driving societal change:

"Our churches must make an impact. We have a unique opportunity to contribute to this transformative project and shape a brighter future together. Let’s seize this moment to lead with purpose and inspire real change in our communities and stop waiting for government to bring change," she stated.

Orero also commended Nyamai’s tireless efforts, pledging his unwavering support until the project’s completion.

"To nurture talent and inspire positive change, we must create recreational facilities for our youth in Kibra, especially in sports’’ he quipped.
