Kenya's Amos Serem produced a sensational performance to win the men's 3000m steeplechase at the Diamond League final.

Serem clocked 8:06.90 to win the in Brussels after a brilliant final lap. The Moroccan, who won his second Olympic title, finished second in 8:08.60.

Another Kenyan, Abraham Kibiwot, was fourth, while Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui of Tunisia was third.

With world record holder Lamecha Girma out, the men's 3000m steeplechase in the Diamond League final was open.

Soufiane El Bakkali was the biggest threat since he had just bagged his second Olympic title at the Paris Olympics.

Serem looked great all race, and in the final lap, he did not allow the Moroccan star to pass him in the final lap.

After a disappointing Olympics, Serem was determined to secure a win over El Bakkali, who ended Kenya's dominance in the distance.

The Moroccan star tried to make a final push, but Serem was not to be defeated in Brussels. For his win, Serem will take home the Diamond Trophy and $30,000.

Abraham Kibiwot takes steeplechase bronze

TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Abraham Kibiwot secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

El Bakkali finished ahead of USA's Kenneth Rooks and Kenya's Kibiwot, while world record holder Lamecha Girma was a DNF.

Before El Bakkali's win in 2020Kenya had won 11 Olympic gold medals in the distance.

Mary Moraa wins Diamond League title

TUKO.co.ke also reported that Mary Moraa bagged her second Diamond League title after winning the women's 800m in Brussels.

The Kenyan star outsprinted Georgia Bell in the final few metres to secure a big win before the Athlos event later this month in New York. She clocked 1:56.56.
