Jimmy Kivuvani, the company's managing director, said DJI Agras T50 drone technology will be a game-changer, facilitating the shift from traditional farming methods to more advanced practices.

“We are excited to bring this new technology to farmers. This drone will help farmers get better harvests and lower their costs. Our team is already out there, showing farmers how to use this technology and why it’s important for them,” said Kivuvani.

Why drone technology in farming?

Kivavuni explained that farmers have long faced challenges such as difficulties in assessing field viability, lack of real-time data on crop health and field conditions, labour-intensive processes, and environmental and health risks from chemical drift and runoff.

He added that the DJI Agras T50 drone is here to solve these problems and make farming easier and more productive.

The drone was made to be very accurate, so it won’t damage crops and can be used in different types of fields.

Unlike traditional methods, which could take up to two weeks to cover 24 hectares with manual labour or basic drone technology, the DJI Agras T50 can accomplish the same task in just one hour.

The MD noted that as technology keeps advancing, it’s important that farming keeps up too.

'Using the DJI Agras T50 is a step towards lowering the cost of producing food and making farming more sustainable for the future,' he said.

Drone technology in Kenya's food production

Drone technology in agriculture continues to take shape in Kenya, with the aim of improving food productivity.

In February 2024, Ukraine emphasised its commitment to help Kenya become food-sufficient through sharing drone technology.

In September 2023, Kenya Flying Labs brought innovative drone, data, AI, and machine learning solutions to Kenya’s development sector.
