Nairobi - Dorcas Agik Oduor has been officially sworn in as the new Attorney General at the Nairobi State House, marking the first time a woman has held this position in history.

During her swearing-in, Oduor pledged to serve with honour and dignity and to provide valuable counsel to the president.

"I do swear that I will at all times be faithful to the republic of Kenya, that I will obey, respect, and uphold the Constitution of Kenya and all other laws of the republic. I will well and truly serve the people in the office of the AG that I will undertake to hold my office as the AG with honour and dignity.

"I will provide honest and faithful counsel to the president for effective management of the republic's affairs. I will maintain confidentiality regarding matters learned in the course of my duties, unless disclosure is necessary for fulfilling my obligations as Attorney General. I commit to performing my responsibilities to the best of my ability," stated Oduor.

In addition, Beatrice Askul was sworn in as the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development.

What advice did Ruto give Dorcas Oduor?

The ceremony was attended by President William Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, various Cabinet Secretaries, parliamentary leaders, security officials, and other dignitaries.

President Ruto expressed confidence in the appointees, citing their extensive public service experience, and assured them of his support in their efforts to enhance the government and the nation.

"You come into the office at every critical moment. I will advise you to carefully see the manifesto in which this government was elected. I do not doubt that you have what it takes to get that office to its appropriate place in the service of this nation. You must work with all the other agencies to make sure that your responsibility and legal representation to the government and the people is timely, robust, and appropriate," said Ruto.
"This appointment is not just about you being a woman. On the account of competence and ability to deliver, you deserve to serve in this position. I am confident that you will demonstrate what has always been said that what a man can do, maybe a woman can do better," the president remarked.

In her previous positions, she has engaged with influential figures within Kenya's political and judicial spheres.

A video recently emerged online featuring Oduor offering a heartfelt prayer at an event attended by Ruto.

Oduor thanked God and sought mercy and forgiveness for their wrongdoings while calling for divine guidance for the president as he fulfilled his leadership duties.
