Nairobi - State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed has responded to reports that ODM MPs snubbed a meeting convened by President William Ruto.

On Wednesday, September 11, Mohamed termed media reports that ODM MPs from Nairobi county refused to meet Ruto as mischievous and baseless.

Did William Ruto invite ODM MPs to State House?

While explaining the sequence of events, Mohamed refuted claims that Ruto extended a formal invite to lawmakers allied with former prime minister Raila Odinga.

He stated that on Monday, September 9, 2024, the president was inspecting the progress of the Kibera Soweto East Zone B Affordable Housing Project, which aims to deliver 4,054 units to Nairobi residents.

After the event, the MPs in attendance accompanied the president to State House for an informal lunch.

“State House communicates or invites MPs or any other individual or groups through official channels. After the event, the MPs in attendance joined the President for an informal lunch at State House. Contrary to the newspaper report, State House confirmed that no formal meeting took place,” Mohammed said.

However, replying to Mohamed's tweet, Nairobi senator and ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna accused the State House spokesperson of spreading lies about the alleged meeting.

"You are lying omwami," Sifuna said.

Which ODM MPs met William Ruto?

As previously reported, the new camaraderie between the president and the opposition leader seemed to be headed to jeopardy as the latter's team seemed to disapprove of the new arrangement.

Ruto reportedly invited Raila-leaning Nairobi lawmakers to his inspection tours of the city's affordable housing projects on Monday, September 9, before converging at State House.

Only three lawmakers warmed up to the president.

He was accompanied to the site and later to State House by Makadara MP George Aladwa, Lang'ata's Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o, Nairobi woman representative Esther Passaris and Beatrice Elachi of Dagoretti North.
