Eliud Kipchoge Spends Holiday In Barcelona After Underwhelming Olympics

Weeks after failing to finish the marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Eliud Kipchoge is spending his holiday in Barcelona.

The Kenyan shared some snaps of himself in the city as he plots his next move after a frustrating Olympic Games.

Kipchoge recharges batteries after Paris

The 39-year-old failed to finish the marathon in Paris and had to take a Parisian taxi to the finish line. He was looking to become the first man to win the Olympic gold in the distance three times.

"This is my worst marathon. I have never done a DNF (did not finish). That’s life. Like a boxer, I have been knocked down, I have won, I have come second, eighth, 10th, fifth – now I did not finish. That’s life," he said via Olympics.com.

It remains to be seen if he will compete at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. He visited various tourist attractions, including the famous Sagrada Familia cathedral.

Kipchoge flew back to Kenya shortly after the conclusion of the Games, where Kenya landed 11 medals, including four gold medals.

The Kenyan star has competed in two marathons so far in 2024 and failed to win any of them. He finished 10th at the Tokyo Marathon in March.

Kipchoge's message to Kenyans

TUKO.coke earlier reported that Kipchoge sent a message to Kenyans after he landed in the country from Paris.

The marathon legend thanked his compatriots for supporting him, controversially adding that the Olympics is not about winning medals.

Kipchoge reacts after disappointing marathon

TUKO.co.ke also reported that Kipchoge shared a moving message on Instagram to address his poor performance in the marathon.

He said it was a tough loss and congratulated Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia for winning the race. Kenya's Benson Kipruto took a bronze medal.

Kipchoge dropped out at around the 30-kilometre mark and appeared to have some discomfort in his waist.
