Fred Kerley shared an eyebrow-raising comment after winning the Silesia Diamond League in Poland on August 25.

The American sprinter floored a field that included Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala to equal the meeting record of 9.87 seconds.

It was his second race after winning bronze in the men's 100m at the Paris Olympics behind compatriot Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson of Jamaica.

Omanyala was second with 9.88 seconds, while Ackeem Blake of Jamaica set a new personal best of 9.89 to take third place.

After the race, Kerley took to X and posted,

"Trash race but on to Rome."

The trash comment divided fans online, with the 2022 World Champion forced to work his way back after Omanyala had taken an early lead.

What did Kerley mean by 'trash race'?

The race had been pitted as a rematch between Kerley and Thompson, but the latter recorded a DNS for unknown reasons.

@JustDub said,

"When is a 9.87 Trash... you're just being too hard oon yourself. It's very late in the season ... You know your body, but how many miles have you put on them legs? Do they need a rejuvenation?"

While @danby said,

"I guess Kishane is ducking races now."

Speaking to FloTrack later on, Kerley explained what he meant.

"I know the race was (expletive) as hell. I just ran and not being technically sound, but I know I'm about to get an earful once I get to my phone."

Rome Diamond League

Kerley's next race is the Rome Diamond League on August 30. Thompson has also been scheduled to compete. Others include Omanyala, 200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo, former Olympic champion Marcel Jacobs, and 2019 world champion Christian Coleman.

Kipyegon vs Tsegay meet again

TUKO.co.ke has also reported that Faith Kipyegon will face Gudaf Tsegay at the Athlos NYC event on September 26.

The two athletes clashed during the women's 5000m final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Kipyegon getting disqualified momentarily.

The triple Olympic champion over the 1500m later confirmed that the Ethiopian athlete apologised to her.
