Money Fest, a controversial matatu owned by President William Ruto’s son George, has caused quite a stir in Uasin Gishu county.

Did Money Fest visit Sugoi?

The vehicle, which made headlines for breaking traffic rules and forging the mandatory inspection by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), was spotted in Eldoret and Ruto’s upcountry home in Sugoi.

A video posted on X showed Money Fest putting on a light show in Eldoret city.

The matatu was the centre of attraction with its distinct LED lights lighting the night and music bumping.

A massive crowd of onlookers smiled around the PSV, recording with their phones.

The vehicle also visited Ruto's village in Sugoi. Scenic images captured the matatu parked near road signage showing the location.

The video elicited quite amusing reactions, with many residents of the capital joking about Eldoret’s new city status. Here are some of the reactions:

@iamjatello:

“Is this the place they call a city?”

@kelvin_muchugu:

“Eldoret, our city.”

@Energyforreal:

“Stand still. How can it be a city, yet they marvel at a matatu?”

Did Money Fest undergo NTSA inspection?

George bowed to pressure and surrendered the Money Fest matatu for NTSA inspection following an outcry.

A video shared by famous disc jockey VDJ Jones showed the newly-acquired matatu at NTSA's Likoni Road Inspection Centre.

In the clip, the head-turning multi-million matatu that plies Ngong Road was queueing alongside other vehicles.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Matwana Matatu culture founder Brian Wanyama urged all matatu investors to follow the rules.

However, the Money Fest driver defended George, saying the souped-up vehicle was financed with a loan.

The driver accused critics of spreading propaganda against its acquisition and registration, saying the owner has a right to engage in matatu business.

He disclosed that Money Fest benefits at least 100 people, and George cannot be admonished for investing in an industry that employs the youth.
